Coupon Usage: Can I use a $1.00 off (1) & $1.00 off (2) on Two Products?

It’s that time again…reader questions! Here’s a question I got asked on the I Love To Gossip Facebook wall:

Went to shaws in Biddeford today. They had tampax pearls on sale.so i grabbed 2 big boxes! I had coupons for $1/1 and $1/2. I used 2 $1/1 and tried to use the $1/2 but the cashier said I couldn’t. This is only my second time couponing… so did i do something wrong?

The golden rule when it comes to using coupons is that you can only use ONE manufacturer’s coupon per item you are purchasing. In this case you used (2) $1 off coupons, which means both boxes you purchased already had a coupon attached to each of them, which is why the cashier would not let you use both coupons.

In this scenario you had the option of using:  (2) $1/1 off coupons or (1) $1/2 coupon…but not both. Since you used the (2) $1 off coupons, it sounds like you made the right decision!
