Yesterday, I asked my Facebook fans for their best Back to School shopping money saving tips and here are some of the tips along with some of mine on how to get everything you need on a budget!
Most of you said that your budget was between $150-$200 per child and lots of you find the best deals by shopping at the end of the season for the following year! That is one of my favorite tips too!
If you don’t mind gently used clothing:
Goodwill & Salvation: Check with your local stores, because some have 50% off days. For example, my local Salvation Army offers 50% off everything in the store on Wednesdays. Goodwill usually offers 50% off on a select colored barb each week. Bonus Tip: Check your local are to see if there is a Goodwill Buy the Pound which allows you to purchase items by the pound instead of by piece.
Ebay: There are lots of great Ebay listings for back to school clothing. Search for keywords like “Back to School Lots size X”. You’ll also want to be sure that the clothing is free of stains, comes from a smoke free home and includes clothing from brands that have a reputation of quality. I usually aim to spend no more than $2-3 per item depending on what brand it is when purchasing lots of clothing.
Thred Up: ThredUp is an online consignment shop which buys & sells used and new-with-tags childrens clothing. I have purchased LOTS of clothing from them and find that I get the best deal when I buy the New with Tags clothing offered on the site. You can get FREE shipping right now by using coupon code: SHIPJUL13 (Ends 7/31)
Check out this article I wrote on Tips to Buying Used Children’s Clothing
Old Navy: Old Navy usually has an annual denim sale priced at $10 – $15 dollars each. I usually like to stock up during this sale. You’ll also want to check their Facebook page for additional coupons.
Children’s Place: Children’s Place offers lots of weekly and daily sales. Make sure to sign up for their newsletters to get updated on their sales. Yesterday I was able to pick up some jeans for the kids for only $8.40 + FREE Shipping!
Zulily: Zulily is a daily deal site for kids and family items. They frequently have awesome sales! I scored both of my children a pair of Toms shoes earlier this summer for only $18 a pair. These are usually $40-50 a pair! Once again, sign up for Zulily’s newsletter to so you can be notified of these sales!
Gymboree & Crazy 8: While Gymboree & Crazy 8’s clothing tends to be on the expensive side, you can save some money by looking through the clearance racks and using coupons found in the Parents Magazine. I subscribe to this magazine just to get the 20% off coupons.
Pro Tip: If you are going to be doing online Back to School shopping, you’ll also want to sign up for Ebates which allows you to earn cash back on all your online purchase!
