Last week, Pete & I went on a solo (no kids!) vacation to Las Vegas! I know what you are thinking, Las Vegas in July?? Crazy hot! Yes, it was! But, it was our only opportunity to get away AND Pete has been dying to go to Vegas, so alas, off we went!
Now, as you may know if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, I’m not really an outdoorsy person per se, my idea of being outdoorsy is having a few drinks on the patio (no joke!) But, Pete and I decided that we DID want to do something outdoorsy while in Las Vegas. I looked into the Grand Canyon tours that were available and none of them seemed appealing, omg, 12 hours in a bus in 110 heat? No Thank you! I also looked into a few of the helicopter tours, but they were pretty pricey and let’s be honest, I’m scared to fly in a helicopter, those things used to go down all the time when I was living in Hawaii. On the suggestion of a friend, I looked into Scoot City Tours, and OMG, as soon as I saw those cute little suckers on the website, I knew that they were going to be perfect for Pete and I!
Being the coupon queen that I am, I searched all around the web for a Scoot City Tour coupon code, but came up empty…so I went ahead and booked it anyway. It was $250 for a 4 hour tour through Red Rock Canyon. We booked it for the first full day in Vegas. Pick up time was at 7:30am and I figured we’d still be on East Coast time, so that we would work out just great!
At 7:30 the next morning, our tour guide Cody picked us up at our hotel (for free!) along with 3 other couples. He took us through the high class neighborhood of Summerlin, Nevada and brought us to the Scoot City Tours home base. There we were presented with a variety of brightly colored 55cc scooters to choose from! Before heading out, Cody showed us how not to kill ourselves with these scooters (thankfully!). And then we were off.
We cruised through the city until we got to the Red Rock Canyon entrance. The entrance fee to Red Rock is paid by Scoot City and you are able to cruise right on through the ticket gate. Our first stop was at the Visitor’s Center, which was just awesome. I took the opportunity to go into the gift shop and get a hat, (I hadn’t brought one, because it says that you can’t wear one in the reservation instructions and since I like to play by the rules I did not bring one…you can however, wear one once you get to Red Rock) take some pictures, and head to the little girls room.
After that pit stop we cruised to another lookout and this is where we were able to climb. It was just absolutely breathtaking. Cody the guide is VERY good about taking your picture for you, so there are lots of photo opps at this stop. Pete and I climbed for around 15-20 minutes and then it was back on the scooters. From there we had two more stops along the one, each one as beautiful and breathtaking as the previous.
Luckily Cody had a cooler of cold waters for us and was very generous with handing them out along the way. The trip lasted just around 3.5 hours and was one of our favorite highlights of our week in Veags.
Pro Tips for Scoot City Tours:
- Book the morning session! By the time we ended our session at 12:30, it was already over 100 degrees and I literally felt like I was melting each time we stopped at a red light.
- Bring a hat. The instructions that come with your reservation say not to wear a hat. However, you CAN wear a hat once you get to Red Rock Canyon, you just can’t wear one while traveling TO the canyon.
- Wear good hiking, walking, climbing shoes. There are a few opportunities along the way to hike into the canyon and you’ll definitely want to take advantage of that. I, unfortunately was wearing flip flops, so I was unable to climb too far.
- Tell Cody the tattooed girl from Maine says hi! :)
