Meet Joan Woodbrey Crocker, not only is she a rocking friend of mine, but she also just recently left her full time job as a social media expert to pursue becoming a Beachbody Coach after only 10 months in the business! Yes, folks! She is already earning a full time income and has made the transition from full-time employee to self-employed. If it is your goal to someday be your own boss, read Joan’s story..it’s an inspiring one!
I asked Joan a few questions about the method to her madness:
Product you are selling/ Business you are in: I’m a Beachbody Coach, it’s a MLM that allows you to help others with their health and fitness. Beachbody is the creator of massively successful programs and products like Insanity, P90X, Shakeology and more. The premise of the company is to end the trend of obesity.
How long have you been doing this: I have been a coach for 10 months.
Why did you get started? I honestly didn’t want to coach at first. I had heard negative things about multi-level marketing/network marketing and even though I myself didn’t think it was a scam, I knew that was the perception that a lot of people had about this type of business and was really worried about whether it would work and what others would think of me. I didn’t want to come off salesy and I wasn’t sure I even knew enough people.
My husband, Ryan however decided he was going to become a coach and signed up. One of the first ranks you are striving to achieve as a Team Beachbody Coach is called Emerald rank. This basically means you have two coaches on your team. So, he signed up his brother-in-law and then asked if he could sign me up. I still said I wanted nothing to do with coaching, but I had wanted to try Shakeology and Insanity, so I said he could sign me up. I still did not build the biz, but I did the workouts.
Fast forward 60 days and I had lost 27lbs and 24.75 inches overall off of my body. I felt healthier, I had more energy, I looked better, I was more confident and I was just a lot happier. People were noticing my transformation and asking me about it, so I thought to myself that if I could inspire one person, if I could help one person feel as good as I did, that any fears of what people thought, challenges or obstacles would be worth it. So I dove in.
My why now of course still includes helping others get healthier and financially free. But, it’s also about creating the lifestyle I want and experiencing as much as I can while I’m here. I want to travel, have freedom, eliminate fear and limiting beliefs from my mind, prove to others that they can have whatever they want and really just fulfill my purpose on this planet of being the biggest light I can be.
How much time does it take each week to run this business? When I initially started coaching I still had a full time job. So, I was really working this at night and just checking in on my lunch breaks. I would say, I started off putting in about 4 – 6 hours a night Mon – Thurs. I also would work a few hours in the morning on Saturday and a few hours at night on Sundays.
Total it was probably about 30 hours a week, but honestly it didn’t feel like work. It was more of a high, a high of helping others and achieving my goals quickly.
How much extra money can one expect to make with this business? Really it’s up to you and the effort you put in. There are folks in this business who’ve become millionaires in the span of 2 years time and there are folks who are just able to cover their Shakeology each month. I was able to make $1300 my first month of coaching and within 6 months I was able to not only match the salary of my full time job at the time but give myself a significant raise. If you are building this business the right way and putting in consistent effort using the tools you are provided you should be able to double your salary each year. The sky is the limit.
What’s the hardest part about this business? For me the hardest part is feeling at times as if you failed someone. If someone quits this business it hurts because you know where it can take their life if they just stick with it. Sometimes you feel like you didn’t do enough or that you didn’t lead well enough. I’ve found that most of the time it has nothing to do with you as a leader but more of their own stuff they have going on. But, it still hurts.
What’s the key to success in your business? There are a few different things that make you a success in this business; I think first and foremost it’s a want to help others. If you are unapologetic about the service behind this business and you have a mission to help others get what they want you can have anything you want. Consistency. So, we have something called the “3 Vital Behaviors” in our business. Doing these actions will help you achieve success:
- Invite, Invite, Invite: So invite folks to your online fit groups and to the business opportunity.
- Being proof the product works. The reason people know that the programs work is because I’m living proof. Something about seeing a before and after photo of someone you know is really inspiring.
- Personal development. Realizing that you are always a work in progress and that in order to be a leader for your coaches and your team that you need to be reading, listening and learning all the time.
And, last but certainly not least… in order to succeed in this business you have to have a why; a reason for pushing forward. If you want to help others or you want to make money that’s great, we all do, but a real why is something that’s going to keep you going when you encounter challenges and push you past your excuses. Finding a why that will make you cry and having a real vision for where you want your life to be will help you chase after that dream/s feverishly.
