Bad news Wags shoppers…..Walgreens has updated their coupon policy…and it’s not so coupon friendly now! I hate to see Walgreens go that route, as I know that many of you are die hard Wags shoppers. I personally stopped couponing there a while ago, once the implemented the Balance Rewards points, I became totally disinterested in their reward programs and deals! But here we are with a new policy to try to understand…below are some of the major changes:
The highlighted area you see above, are the changes that affect couponers dramatically:
7. Walgreens will not accept coupons that exceed the selling price of an item.
This stinks for clearance deals, sale items and inexpensive items! It means if we see a Cover Girl lipstick on clearance for $1.99, we will no longer be able to use a $2.00 coupon on it! No other store that I can think of has this policy. Some give overage (like Walmart) and others just adjust it down (like Dollar tree)!
9. For offers when multiple items are purchased and additional items are FREE (B1G1 & B2G2) the number of coupons applied to that offer cannot exceed the number of items required in the buy protion of the offer:
Up until now, we have been able to use 2 coupons on a B1G1 FREE sale, so I am very sad to see that go away. Now CVS is the only store that will still allow you to use 2 manufacturer’s coupons on a B1G1 FREE Sale.
The new Walgreens coupon policy also goes on to say that management has the right to limit the amount of purchases of excess quantities, which is defined as “a quantity above and beyond a normal household usage“. I call BS on that..because it gives the manager the right to be a jerk based on how many items you are buying and what you are buying..which let’s be honest, is none of their business. What gives them the right to make a determination of how much of an item that my household uses?
With all of that said, I’m very sorry to have to report this news, I think we will still find the occasional good deal at Walgreens, but it won’t be like it was in the old days…pass me a tissue ;)
